Jesse Owens!
Jesse owens was born on September 12,1913 in Oakville Alabama onto the late Henry and Mary Emma Owens. Jesse was the seventh of eleven children. Later on in lfe Jesse and his family moved to Cleveland Ohio for better opportunities and a better life style. As a young child Jesse was a very mature man, and took on a lot of responsibility. He delivered groceries, loaded freight cars, and worked in a shoe mill. Then he discovered he had a passion for running, he attributed the success of his careerand started running track for his former high school Fairmount Junior High. Owens was allowed to travel with and stay in the same hotels as whites. After New York City Jesse had a ticker-tape parade of Fifth Avenue in his honor. He was also quoted saying the secret behind his success was " I let my feet spend as lttle time of the ground as possible.
After some athletic games, the olympic team and owens were invited to compete in Swenden. He then decided to capitalized his success by returning to the United States to take up some of the more lucrative commercial offers. United States athletic officials were furious and withdrew his amateur staus, and ended his career immediatly. After his career slowed down, Jesse decided to settle down and married the late Minnie Ruth Soloman who he met at Fairmount Junior High School, and they had a child Gloria Owens in 1932 , Finally they got married in 1935 and had two more children together, Martene Owens born in 1939 and Beverly Owens born in 1940, Jesse and his wife stay married until his death.
Slowly but surely Jesse started back at sports, he then joined the West Coast Baseball League Association, sometimes entertaining the audience in between the Doubleheader games by competing in horse racing games. The WCBA disbanded only after two short months. Owens ran a dry cleaning business and worked as a gas station attendent to earn a living, He eventually filled for bankruptcy in 1966 he was successfully prosecuted for tax evasion. At rock bottom he was aided in beginning rehilbilitation. The government appointed him as a goodwill ambassador. On March 31,1986 Jesse Owens passed on of natural causes in Pheonix Arizonia leaving behind a family of three and a wonderful life.
